I've not found a comparable storage alternative yet but I like this idea of taping newer materials over the last time Wizards sold decent boxes. They don't have the silky smooth finish of the original RTR box, but their sturdiness alone makes them 5/5 to me.Īnd they stopped making them. These are the ones you want for your cubes, decks and storage. These boxes are fantastic for storage and are easily identify by having lids that do not appear to even touch the base. Shadows of Innistrad (5 packs), Kaladesh (5 packs - masterpiece lottery) - completely changed the construction on the boxes to add internal raised corners that do not put pressure on the lid to split. Kaladesh brought us the first 30 Inventions followed by the remaining 24 that came with Aether Revolt, the second set of the Kaladesh block. Quality is 2/5 and that's a bit generous. Even unsold on the shelves you'd often find them with split and collapsed corners. All 4 of these gift boxes have corners that will split and make the box flatten. Theros (4 packs), Khans (4 packs - fetch lottery), Battle for Zendikar (5 packs - Expedition lottery) - similar construction to the RTR ones, but slightly worse. Corners collapse, but not as easily and the surface is a silky matte finish, nicer than the generic cardboard in all the others Return to Ravnica (4 packs included) - first holiday/gift boxes, decent construction I'd give a 3/5. But some people only know the awful ones and are unaware a bit of their history: I love the gift boxes for storage purposes.
